Born November 15, 1948, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, Randy Travis was the cherished son of George and Dorothy (Colee). Early on in life, he lived in Browerville, Minnesota, where he grew to have a solid basis of principles based on diligence, honesty, and compassion. A turning point in his life dedicated to service and community, Randy graduated from Browerville High School in 1966.
A Proud Veteran of the U.S. Army
Randy answered his call to service in 1968 by enlisting in the United States Army and served honorably during the Vietnam War from 1968 through 1971. He was serving with valour in this momentous period of history that defines a man who can prove his loyalty towards his nation. The military service given by Randy Travis won him accolades in front of his friends and continuous appreciation by a nation. His dedication continued even after military active service as a devoted Willmar American Legion Post # 167 member, in whom he maintained the traditions and friendship among other veterans.
A Lifelong Commitment to Family
Randy started a love, loyalty, and strength-filled relationship with Janet Marie Barton on July 11, 1970. Together, they created their life in Willmar where they raised Angela Olander and Amanda Smith their two children. Randy Travis loved every moment he spent with his family and was especially happy in his capacity as a grandpa and father. The brightness of his life came from his six grandkids, Emma, Hailey, Ava, Peyton, Ryder, and Zoey; he took immense satisfaction in seeing their development and pleasure.
Professional Life and Community Contributions
In addition to significant contributions to Vreeman Construction and Jennie-O Foods, where he managed the operations, Randy’s career path includes His great work ethic and the respect he got from colleagues clearly show his devotion to his profession. Randy retired in 2008 because of health issues, but he stayed very engaged in his family life and community.
Beyond his work, Randy Travis has a diverse and active set of interests. Simple pleasures of feeding and watching birds and meticulously landscaping his yard and nearby casinos and the Dairy Queen please him. These interests make him happy and help him develop meaningful connections with the surroundings.
Final Farewell and Commemoration
Tuesday, July 19, 2024 will see funeral services honouring Randy’s life at the Word of Faith Church in Willmar at 2:00 p.m. One hour before the service will be visitation at the church. At the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls, Wednesday, July 20, 2024, at 12 noon, a dignified interment with full military honours will take place. Arrangements have been left to Peterson Brothers Funeral Home.
Surviving Family and Loved Ones
Randy leaves behind a loving family ready to treasure his memory always. His two loving daughters, Angela (Jeremy) Olander and Amanda Smith (fiancé, Richard), as well as his six precious grandkids survive him. With also surviving Judy Galbreath sister among many other family and acquaintances; Randy Travis also leaves behind his parents George and Dorothy Travis his brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Arlene Travis as well as his brother-in-law John Galbreath of whom preceded Randy in death.
