Though the probability of a plane crash is very rare if it happens nothing can be worse than that. Recently one of the trending news that is in the top headlines of every news channel is the Nepal plane crash. Yes, you read that right! 

The unfortunate and deadliest aircraft accident took place on the morning of 15th January after the Yeti airlines plane crashed in Pokhara which is a famous tourist spot in Nepal. The news of the plane crash came like a bolt from the blue and shocked people from all over the world. As per the news, all 72 passengers on the board have been killed in the fatal aircraft accident.

  • Worst Aircraft Accident 

As per sources, the recent Nepal plane crash is one of the deadliest, most tragic, and worst air crashes that happened in the last 3 decades in Nepal.

There were 72 people onboard including 5 Indians, 10 other foreign passengers, and 4 crew members. If reports are to be believed all 72 passengers have been killed in the air crash before landing at Pokhara International Airport in Nepal.

As per the Aviation Safety Database, over the last 30 years, nearly 27 deadly plane crashes have happened in Nepal killing more than 600 people. However, the recent Nepal plane crash was the worst aircraft accident in three decades. It was in the year 1992 when a Pakistan International Airlines plane crashed in Nepal taking the lives of all 167 people on board. 

  • Number of Passengers Killed

As already mentioned above, Yeti Airlines’ 9N-ANC ATR-72 aircraft had 72 passengers on board. This includes 15 foreign passengers, 6 kids, and 4 crew members. There were 53 Nepali and 5 Indians, 4 Russians, 2 Koreans, 1 Argentinian, and one each from Australia, Ireland, and France in the aircraft. As per the latest reports, all 72 passengers have died in the Nepal plane crash. However, only 70 bodies have been recovered while the hunt for two missing passengers is still going on.

Some rescuers even went down the deep gorge to search for the missing people. However, there is the least hope if anyone is alive.

After the plane crashed on 15th January, the Nepal government announced one-day national mourning the following day of the worst crash. 

  • What Actually Happened on 15th January 

Nepalese Yeti Airlines’ 9N-ANC ATR-72 aircraft carrying 72 passengers on board departed from Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport at 10:33 am on Sunday 15th of January. The flight was on its short way from Kathmandu to Pokhara and scheduled to land soon at Pokhara International Airport. The flight was of a short duration of 30 minutes. 

However, the flight crashed just a few minutes before the landing. The crash took place a few kilometers away from the Pokhara airport. The last contact between the pilot and ATC took place at 10:50 am when the plane was flying over the Seti River Gorge. 

As per reports, the plane crashed into a river gorge on the bank of the Seti River.

  • A Pilot Couple Killed Nearly 16 Yrs Apart 

The tragic Nepal plane crash took the lives of many innocent people including kids, teens, adults, and seniors. The list of dead people includes Anju Khatiwada who was the co-pilot of crashed aircraft. 

Anju joined the aviation industry after her husband was killed in a plane crash incident for the same airline in 2006. Her husband, Deepak Pokharel was a pilot in the Nepal Army. However, later he was employed as a pilot for Yeti Airlines and he died in a Twin-Otter crash in the Jumla district in 2006.

Nealy after 16 years, co-pilot Anju Khatiwada died when the Yeti 9N-ANC ATR-72 aircraft crashed on the bank of the Seti River near Pokhara airport on 15th January.

  • Witnesses Share Incident Details

Local Nepal resident Kalpana Sunar witnessed the incident and narrated what actually happened on 15th January. She was doing laundry in the front yard of her home when she saw an aircraft coming at a lightning speed toward her.

The aircraft was tilted and after some time she heard a bomb-like blast. She further said that she saw dark black fumes coming from the Seti River gorge.

There was even fire all around Seti River gorge, with bodies scattered all around.

Even local kids saw the plane crashing and admitted they heard the screams of the passengers sitting inside the aircraft.
