According to the Chicago Police Department, there have been at least ten individuals wounded as a result of gunshots that have taken place around the city of Chicago so far this weekend. The Chicago Shooting of this weekend has created an atmosphere of terror and uncertainty.
According to the authorities, eight of the shootings took place on Saturday. One of the incidents of the Chicago Shooting included a guy who was 52 years old and a son, who were both shots while they were seated in a vehicle in the area of Back of the Yards.
The police said that both of them were in good shape after they were taken to local hospitals with graze wounds.
Chicago Shooting: What Happened and When?
The following is a rundown of the Chicago shooting incidents that have taken place thus far.
In additional incidents involving gunfire from Friday evening at 5 p.m. through Monday morning at 5 a.m.:
Saturday (28th January 2023)
On Saturday morning at 12:07 a.m., an individual who was traveling westbound on Chicago Avenue in the 700 block of West Chicago Avenue was the target of gunfire from an individual who was inside a white pickup truck. The man was discovered with a gunshot wound to the back and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition.
A guy went into the University of Chicago Hospital with a gunshot wound to the left hand at about 2:45 a.m. on Saturday in the 200 block of East Marquette Road. The victim is now described as being in excellent condition. The victim did not want to provide any additional information about what had happened.
A female victim, aged 26, was found with a gunshot wound to the neck in the aforesaid area on Saturday morning at 3:25 a.m., and the 6300 block of South Martin Luther King Drive was the place where she was found. While she was being taken to the University of Chicago Hospital, her health was found to be stable. The events leading up to the tragedy are still being looked into by law enforcement. There were no reports of any further injuries.
A male, age 27, was shot several times on Saturday evening in the 2400 block of West Madison. The injuries he sustained were to his neck and back. He was in critical condition when he arrived at Stroger Hospital, where he was taken.
A number of bullets were fired as a male, aged 19, was standing outdoors in the 100 block of West Adams Street around 11:45 p.m. on Saturday night. The victim was hit once in the groin and once in the arm before being brought to Northwestern Hospital, where he is now classified in severe condition due to his injuries.
Sunday (29th January 2023)
A sixteen-year-old kid was riding the CTA Red Line when he received a gunshot wound to the ear and eye at 2:05 a.m. on Sunday in the 100 block of West Cermak Road. The child was hit by the bullet in both of his ears. The victim heard a number of rounds being fired, but he was unable to offer any other information. The man, who was in critical condition, was taken by ambulance to Stroger Hospital. A witness has supplied a description of a person who may be a suspect in the case. Officers found a guy who matched the description, and they were able to retrieve the firearm. The criminal was arrested and taken to jail.
On Sunday at 11:42 a.m., in the 1700 block of East 95th Street, a 15-year-old kid was sitting inside a car when he was hit in the arm by gunfire. Initial reports indicate that the youngster was in stable condition upon arrival at Comer Children’s Hospital.
On Sunday afternoon at 3:40 p.m., in the 13200 block of South Carondolet, a guy of 32 years of age was standing close to a sidewalk when he was approached by another male of unknown identity, and the two of them started to quarrel with each other. The unknown attacker took out a revolver from where they were hiding and shot the victim three times in the chest and once in the arm. The victim was said to be in stable condition when they arrived at the University of Chicago Medical Center.
A gunshot wound to the knee was suffered by a 42-year-old man on Sunday evening in the 3000 block of East 80th Street. The victim was standing close to the sidewalk at the time of the incident. The victim was said to be in stable condition when they arrived at the University of Chicago Medical Center.
A guy who was 32 years old and living in the 10000 block of South Commercial on Sunday evening at the time of the incident suffered a gunshot wound to the head that he had caused on himself by shooting himself in the head with a pistol. The victim’s critical condition required immediate medical attention, so they were sent to the University of Chicago Medical Center.
During a confrontation that took place on Sunday evening at 8:30 p.m. in the 5900 block of West Addison, a guy in his twenties got into a disagreement with someone who then followed him into a parking lot and began firing shots, wounding the victim many times. He was struck by bullets three times in the abdomen and once in the arm. He was in serious condition when he arrived at Illinois Masonic Hospital, where he was sent. Following the shooting, the suspect drove away from the area in a dark vehicle. There is no one under arrest.
On Sunday evening, at 8:48 p.m., a young guy of 19 years old was traveling on the 8900 block of South Ashland Avenue when another car approached him, and someone shot him in the hip. The victim was found to be in stable condition when they arrived at Little Company of Mary Hospital.
Conclusion
As the number of shootings continues to rise and as each incident becomes more terrifying than the last, more gun control legislation is urgently required.
